In mid-October, sheep, goats, and yaks carrying luggage all come down from “the Pamir” mountains of Shimshal, where the snow has started to fall. At the foot of the suspension bridge leading to the village, we see villagers welcoming their families and livestock returning from the Pamir. Amidst the beautiful autumn leaves, the village of Shimshal is bustling with preparations for winter. During this season, you’ll no doubt get a chance to witness “Kuch”—the great migration of livestock—in other villages in Upper Hunza as well. It is a beautiful season when the poplars shine golden in the region.
