Mohenjo-daro is the largest archaeological site of the Indus Valley Civilization, which flourished from the years of 2500 to 1800 BC. It is said that up to 40,000 people lived there. The site is divided into a fortified area in the east (with a Gandhara-era stupa and bathing site, which is thought to have been a religious and administrative site) and a city center in the west (with noblemen's houses, stores, commoners' houses, etc.). Only a mere ten percent of the ruins have been excavated, so the site is dotted with unexcavated mounds. The ruins aren’t the only picturesque thing about Mohenjo-daro—the surrounding rural area is equally remarkable. If possible, we recommend that you stay overnight in the old rest house in the ruins, and also enjoy a stay in the countryside of Sindh Province.
